This policy explains what personal information Scout. Predict. Score. ("the app", "we") collects, why, where it is kept, and for how long. We collect as little as we can.
What we collect
- When you register a team (group scouting): the event, your team number and your email. When teammates join by invite, their emails too.
- When you start self scouting: the event and your team number. An email only if you choose to give one (13 or older).
- When you send feedback: your star rating, your comment and, only if you add it, your email.
- When you agree to these terms: that you agreed, the version of the terms and the time, and whether you confirmed you are 13 or older.
We never ask for names, addresses, phone numbers or school details.
What you choose to store
Scouting entries are notes and counts about robots in matches. In self scouting they stay on your device and are never sent to us. In group scouting they are stored on our server so your teammates can see them, and only people with your team's links can. Notes are free text, so please don't write people's names or other personal details in them.
How we use it
- To run the app: show your team's page, let teammates join, keep scouting in sync.
- To email the captain's link, notices that someone asked to join your team, and replies to feedback you sent with an email. No newsletters or marketing.
- To decide what to build next, from anonymous daily counts (how many teams and devices use the app). No names, emails or locations are part of those counts.
How long we keep it
- Group scouting, team registrations and their emails: deleted 48 hours after the event ends.
- Self scouting registrations (event, team, optional email): deleted 48 hours after the event ends. Your self scouting itself stays on your device until you tap Clear my scouting or clear your browser's data.
- Feedback: kept for one year.
- Anonymous usage counts: kept up to about a year.
Where it is kept, and who else is involved
The app runs on Google Cloud (hosting and database) in the United States. Event schedules and results come from the official FIRST Tech Challenge event service. Emails are sent through an email delivery service. These providers only process data so the app can work. We don't sell, rent or trade your information, and we don't share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.
Like any website, our hosting provider keeps standard request logs, which include IP addresses, for about 30 days for security and troubleshooting. We don't copy IP addresses into our own data.
Cookies, storage and tracking
We don't use cookies, ads or third-party trackers. The app saves data in your browser's local storage so it works offline (the event data, your scouting and your settings); it stays on your device. We don't track you across other websites, so there is nothing to change for "Do Not Track".
Security
Team pages are opened with private links that only your team has, and we store only scrambled (hashed) versions of those links. Data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). No system is perfectly secure, so keep your link to yourself and use Manage to remove people who should no longer have access.
Children
You must be 13 or older to register a team, join one, give an email or send feedback. Self scouting without an email is open to all ages and collects nothing personal. If we learn that someone under 13 gave us personal information, we delete it. A parent or guardian who thinks this happened can contact us.
Your choices
- Self scouting: erase it any time with Clear my scouting.
- Group scouting: delete your entries in the app; a teammate can remove you under Manage.
- To have a registration, an email or feedback deleted sooner, contact us.
Changes
If we change this policy we update the date below and the version people agree to; you'll be asked to agree again the next time you register or join.
